Write for us
We welcome pitches that help readers understand how counties and neighbouring places fit together. Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option.
What to pitch
Propose a focused, evergreen article about a landscape feature, boundary, settlement pattern, place name or connection between places. A strong pitch identifies the reader's question, the main idea you would explain and why the subject is useful beyond a passing moment.
Make the proposal specific
Tell us what the piece will cover and what it will leave aside. Avoid sweeping claims about a whole county based on one landmark or locality. If a proposal depends on specialist knowledge, explain the basis for that knowledge plainly; do not imply credentials or firsthand experience you do not have.
Sending a pitch
Use the Contact page to send a short outline and a brief note about your approach. Unsolicited full manuscripts are not needed for an initial proposal. We cannot promise a response time or acceptance, and we may ask for clarification before considering a pitch.
A county is more than a boundary
Land, names, settlements and routes all help make a place legible. We look at how those parts relate without treating any one feature as the whole story.
